100 Word Challenge 22/3/18

Fear.

I wake with a start and instinctively rub my eyes. Something is off. I'm a deep sleeper and never usually wake in the night. Surveying my room, I try find a clue as to what could have woken me. Out of the corner of my eye, I spot something pale and luminous. My muscles clench with fear, and goosebumps rush up and down my back. It's at the top of my chest of drawers. How did it get up there? What is it? All thoughts disappear instantaneously and I ogle in absolute horror as it falls onto my bed. I scream as my eyes rest apon it.

100 Word Challenge 13/3/18

A Child's Fantasy

Colourful clouds swirl and coil rapidly around each other. Leaves and wild flowers are tinted orange from the rising sun, which shows slivers of it's welcome face through the silver branches of trees. Giant teacups, plates and bowls of glinting porcelain scatter the forest, while the birds atop them sing their morning chorus. I float up from the ground and hover about the glistening tree tops, my bare feet tickled by twigs. The sky is full of softly coloured balloons who bob to my side, cherishing the sunrise with me. But this isn't the real world. And I still have real places to visit and real sights to see. So goodbye imagination, my dear friend, I hope to see you again.

100 Word Challenge 8/3/18

Rumors

Popularity. Relationships. Back talking. Rumors live like and die like flies, short lived and irrelevant, but now so common it seems acceptable to spread lies and exaggerations without consequence. The usual string of stories and ever constant use of the word 'apparently' is getting tiring to me, and an example of a definitive source of chitchat is unprecedently rare. But why is unconfirmed gossip part of  regular pupil talk anyway? Well, to answer that I'm sad to announce that 'Why don't we talk about Algebra!?' isn't a common conversation starter among Year 8 students. But what if I was in charge? I'm not sure what that would be like, as I'm fairly sure I won't ever be.

100 Word Challenge 15/2/18

Metors Incoming.

Meteors. Big or small, individual or part of a belt; they can change your life and everyone else's. The year is 2108. There are new technological discoveries and as a species we were moving very fast when debris from some distant solar system started hurtling towards Earth at over 48000 kph.
Our doom is inevitable. Rioting has broken out and faith in our governments and space agencies has been lost. There is no doomsday clock, so the last few days have varied from household to household, city to city. A party to end all parties has been thrown. Large gatherings of loved ones and maybe complete strangers have been organized.
But my recollection ends as the flames begin and our planet turns to fire.
